Thank You!

I just wanted to thank everyone that has supported BIMP from the beginning. Beer Is My Passion has been such an exciting challenge for me. Writing about beer, participating in tastings and beer festivals, and sharing my development as a homebrewer has been a truly rewarding experience. I’ve taken some much needed time to reflect on where I felt the future of Beer Is My Passion would take me/you, and I have some exciting news. Beer Is My Passion will be combining efforts with a fellow homebrew club (Krausen Growers Bureau) to form a brand new homebrew club. The Circle City Zymurgy club has officially filed with the American Homebrewer’s Association, and as of today I will be focusing my attention on making CCZ the best homebrew club it can be. Make sure to visit us at circlecityzymurgy.com for events, tastings, and news on all things fermented. Thanks again for the ride, and I hope you continue to make beer your passion!Circle City Zymurgy - Indianapolis Skyline - Beer Background

BIMP Pouring At Winterfest 2014!

Winterfest TicketsBeer Is My Passion will be participating at this year’s Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest (now officially sold out) at the Indiana State Fair on February 1st! What will we be doing you ask? Pouring delicious homebrew of course 🙂 We will be sharing the stage with MONK, The Ohio Valley Homebrewers Association, and The Bloomington Hop Jockeys. Expect great beer from your favorite local/national breweries, but make it a point to drop by and say hi  to your brewers next door! This year we’ll be sharing a Belgian Witbier with tangerine zest, chamomile flowers, and coriander; an English IPA (Sleepy Sailor if you’ve seen our recipe on our blog); a mulled cider (served hot for you firkin lovers wanting to warm up from the cold); and a jalapeno cider we got some cred from in the Indy Star this year. Stay tuned, as I’ll be updating my blog with a full list of brewers attending Winterfest sometime tomorrow.

Hipsters Love Beer

Not much to say here… So true. So true. Just kidding. I’m probably just as guilty as any of these Arrogant Bastards 🙂 Just ask my friend Nate! He frequently reminds me that “session beer” and other brew jargon only proves how awesome/douchey I am 🙂 By the way, I was totally into microbrew before it was cool. Enjoy!

Woman Stabs Husband With Ceramic Squirrel For Not Bringing Home Beer

helen_ann_williamsSo this just happened… A South Carolina woman was arrested for smashing a ceramic squirrel over her husband’s head and then stabbing him in the chest with it after finding out he didn’t bring home any beer from the store early Christmas morning. Helen Ann Williams is now in county jail with a $10,000 bond. Williams told police that her husband “fell” and cut himself 🙂 Here’s a link to the story. I wonder what beer she wanted? Either way, hopefully your holiday season didn’t include getting stabbed by a ceramic animal. Cheers!

The Magnificent Multitude of Beer

MegaBeer

Pop Chart Lab has created the mother of all beer taxonomy posters! The aptly titled “The Magnificent Multitude of Beer” is incredibly detailed. Each beer style is linked divided into Ale and Lager, then to individual style, an example, and finally the glass it should be served in. Well done! It looks like they took their original “Very Many Varieties of Beer” and continued to add to it. This 60″ x 40″ poster will surely be the envy of your beer enthusiast friends. Check out our previous post on Pop Chart Lab here.

Pranksters Connect Friend’s Plumbing To Kegs Of Beer

Haha! I need friends like this 🙂 These guys swapped the plumbing to every faucet in their friend’s house with a connections to kegs in the crawlspace. They also hooked up hidden cameras to film their friends reactions.

Me and the boys played a bit of a joke on our mate Russ. Kegs of beer have been plumbed into every tap in the house, with loads of cameras to catch the action. Took us all day to set up but it was worth it when the icy cool beer came pouring out.

The nICE Mug

nICE Mug - 1

Inventor Glenn Auerbach and his group of friends have developed a reusable mold that creates a drinking mug made of ice. I can’t think of a better way to keep your beer cold. These glasses are a great idea, however there are some caveats. Air bubbles created during the freezing process can cause weak spots in the final product. Luckily, the makers of nICE mug have tips on making “clear” ice using distilled or reverse osmosis water, lemon oil drops, and/or the “double freeze” method. Glenn is raising funds on Kickstarter for its production, and you can also visit the nICE mug webpage here. A $20 pledge to their kickstarter page (between September 5th and October 8th) gets you an “Early Adopter Kit” including two molds and four nICE holds at half price. Best of luck Glenn!

Bloomington Craft Beer Festival Revisited

2013-04-13_16-21-10_543

We had a blast at this year’s Bloomington Craft Beer Festival. The Woolery Stone Mill could not have been a better venue for this event. So many great beers, beautiful weather, and an awesome crowd. You can bet I’ll be back there next year. Thanks to everyone that dropped by to try our brews. These pictures, as well as updates on other beer festivals can be found at the Brewers of Indiana Guild’s website. Cheers!
