BIMP Pouring At Winterfest 2014!

Winterfest TicketsBeer Is My Passion will be participating at this year’s Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest (now officially sold out) at the Indiana State Fair on February 1st! What will we be doing you ask? Pouring delicious homebrew of course 🙂 We will be sharing the stage with MONK, The Ohio Valley Homebrewers Association, and The Bloomington Hop Jockeys. Expect great beer from your favorite local/national breweries, but make it a point to drop by and say hi  to your brewers next door! This year we’ll be sharing a Belgian Witbier with tangerine zest, chamomile flowers, and coriander; an English IPA (Sleepy Sailor if you’ve seen our recipe on our blog); a mulled cider (served hot for you firkin lovers wanting to warm up from the cold); and a jalapeno cider we got some cred from in the Indy Star this year. Stay tuned, as I’ll be updating my blog with a full list of brewers attending Winterfest sometime tomorrow.

Blackberry MuseDaredevil Brewing will be celebrating their first Anniversary with 6 Tap Takeover events this January! Wednesday January 8th kicks off their first event at Twenty Tap in Broad Ripple.
Daredevil Anniversary Tap Takeovers

These events are bound to be a good time. I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to make it to each one, so please feel free to drop a comment on what goodies you may have gotten your hands onto at the Jeffersonville and Bloomington events. Cheers!

Daredevil Anniversary Tap Takeovers

Daredevil Brewing will be celebrating their first Anniversary with 6 Tap Takeover events this January! Not only will we see the triumphant return of Muse Belgian Golden Ale, but there will also be some rare small batch brews available as well. It’s been exciting watching Daredevil grow their brand over the past 12 months, and we at BIMP would like to congratulate them on a successful year of awesome beer. Keep them coming! Also, if you haven’t had the opportunity to try their limited release JWP American Stout (released December 10, 2013), it is highly recommended. Cheers!

Home Food Preservation – Pickles and Pickling Class

20110821-167153-finished-garlic-dill-pickles

Great Fermentations is hosting a Home Food Preservation workshop focusing pickles and pickling this Saturday from 9am-12pm. We are stoked!

In each workshop you will learn the basic principles of food preservation and the process focusing on making pickles.  You will get hands on practice producing product in each workshop, and you get to take home your finished product!

$25 gets you admission to the class, product, jars, and food safe preservation resources! Come join us at GF’s Northside location and maybe you can confront your fear of pickles 😉

Big Brew Day at Great Fermentations Revisted

Big Brew Day at Great Fermentations turned out to be a winner. Rain was expected in the forecast for the event, but after some slight spitting during the morning hours the sun decided to stick around the rest of the day. There were several notable events throughout the day including a brewing equipment “garage sale”, an introductory cheesemaking class, an off flavor seminar, Ask-A-Judge, and a class on making Sour beer. BBQ’n Fools was churning out some pretty fantastic smoked food including some excellent smoked bratwursts. At 1:00pm over 40 attendees participated in a global toast given by Mayor Greg Ballard. GF staff counted 25 batches brewed right in their parking lot, including a batch of mead. BIMP brewed a Wheat Wine and Dunkelweizen.

Although we were brewing somewhat outside of our comfort zones, GF offered burners, propane, filtered/RO water, and even a mobile wort chilling station (two daisy chained counterflow chillers, a couple of pumps, and a cart for transferring your hot wort to the chillers) to ease the stress of brewing away from your home setup. Another perk was that if you forgot any supplies or ingredients (WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!! ;)) all you had to do was head into the shop. We had a great time and wanted to thank Great Fermentations for putting on event, and everyone that hung out and celebrated National Homebrew Day with us. We are definitely looking forward to a bigger and better Big Brew next year!

Fountain Square Brewing’s 2nd Annual Peep Show!

Fountain Square Brewing Peep ShowFountain Square Brewery will be holding their 2nd Annual Peep Shooting Contest on March 29th @ 7pm. This event was a big hit last year. Entrants into this Peep propulsion extravaganza are judged on Accuracy, Creativity, and “Total Annihilation.” Ultimately each entrant designs a Peep Shooting weapon of their choice (although they cannot use anything flammable or explosive) to fire at a target 35 feet away. Their registry page even has a drop-down field that lists the categories of über-Peep shooting power your weapon uses to mangle the poor Peeps: Mechanical, Magnetic, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic. Creativity is encouraged. You can register for the event here. Looking forward to this event. See you there!
