Anchorage Brewing Tasting at Sahm’s Place

Anchorage Beer Dinner at SahmsThis looks like an awesome tasting, although a little pricey. Anchorage has become one of my favorite breweries as of late. They make fantastic sours (one of my favorites was The Tide and It’s Takers) All the beers are rated exceptionally well on BeerAdvocate.com, and I’m sure the food will be outstanding as well. If you you can shell out $80 per ticket this would be a no brainer! Make sure to reserve quickly however, as I’m sure there are limited seats. You can reach Sahm’s Place at 317.202.1577 for a reservation.

ACB Films Presents Winterfest 2014

I’m sure many of you remember the 80+ breweries at this year’s Winterfest. You may remember the pretzel necklaces, the firkins, or the random bursts of cheering. What you may have forgotten was that there were video cameras seeded throughout the venue. Here is the epic video created by ACB Films, which documents all of your uninhibited shenanigans. The funny thing is I remember most of these people when we were pouring. Well documented! You can follow their YouTube channel here.

BIMP Pouring At Winterfest 2014!

Winterfest TicketsBeer Is My Passion will be participating at this year’s Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest (now officially sold out) at the Indiana State Fair on February 1st! What will we be doing you ask? Pouring delicious homebrew of course 🙂 We will be sharing the stage with MONK, The Ohio Valley Homebrewers Association, and The Bloomington Hop Jockeys. Expect great beer from your favorite local/national breweries, but make it a point to drop by and say hi  to your brewers next door! This year we’ll be sharing a Belgian Witbier with tangerine zest, chamomile flowers, and coriander; an English IPA (Sleepy Sailor if you’ve seen our recipe on our blog); a mulled cider (served hot for you firkin lovers wanting to warm up from the cold); and a jalapeno cider we got some cred from in the Indy Star this year. Stay tuned, as I’ll be updating my blog with a full list of brewers attending Winterfest sometime tomorrow.

Some of my favorites that night included the Powerhouse Diesel Oil Stout, Daredevil JWP, and Bourbon Barrel Teddy Bear Kisses, however they were all pretty fantastic. Have a listen, and grab some of these great brews as they will be gone before you know it. Cheers!

Indy Beer News Oskar Blues Tasting

oskarbluesI had the opportunity to join Bill Jimerson of IndyBeerNews, along with Zach Typinski of Oskar Blues Brewery, Cari Crowe of Mass Ave Pub, Evan Batt of World Class Beer, and Andrew Camp of The Biercast for an Oskar Blues tapping and live taping of Indy Beer News at The Mass Ave Pub. This was such a great time. We got to sample Mama’s Little Yella PilsDale’s Pale AleOld Chub – Scottish Style AleDeviant Dale’s IPAG’Knight Imperial Red Ale, and Ten FIDY. These beers are very well put together, and interestingly enough, most of them that were served were no older than 2 weeks. Here’s the podcast:

Cigar and Microbrew Pairing Episode III

banner-1The powers of these cigar pairings have doubled since the last time we met… On Saturday August 31st at 7pm, we will be hosting another cigar and microbrew pairing in Fishers (click here for the address). It appears we have fallen into several West Coast brews that the the Separatist Droid Army has stolen from the Republic. What better way to enjoy these valuable brews, than to pair them with a blend of Nicaraguan/Honduran longfillers with Honduran binders and Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrappers. Alec Bradley Connecticut cigars are mild to medium in strength, with a little more spice and complexity than you would expect from a Connecticut cigar. It produces plumes of creamy and cool smoke that coat the palate with notes of cedar, nuts, and toast before a slightly sweet finish. These are perfect for those who appreciate a flavorful milder cigar, or for someone struggling between light and dark forces. Remember each beer picked for this event IS NOT distributed in Indiana. I am selecting hard to find brews from the up and down the West Coast and shipping them back specifically for this tasting. These tickets are sure to go fast, so please purchase them as soon as possible! Hope to see you there. 1st 15 people to sign up are guaranteed a spot at the tasting. You can also see who’s coming by visiting the Facebook Event Page. May the force be with you 🙂

Microbrew and Cigar Pairing Episode II

947216_265817806894780_282291632_n

Episode 2-The Dark Side
There is unrest in the Beer Is My Passion
homebrew club. After many sleepless nights,
BIMPers have declared their intentions to hold
another galactic cigar microbrew council. This
movement, striving to maintain peace and order in
the galaxy, vows to pair the finest cigars with the best
microbrewed beer in the universe. Senator Jennifer Kraner,
former Queen of Ft. Wayne-midala along with Jedi Ryan Kraner
will return to the BIMP Senate to present beers in succession to the microbrew council. Each beer carefully chosen for their unique
powers will showcase a balance between light and dark forces.

The Cigar: Carlos Torano Signature-Maduro
Torano Signature cigars are flawlessly handmade with a robust, complex-tasting blend of Dominican & Nicaraguan Cuban-seed Ligero long-fillers, broadleaf binder, and an oily, sun-grown Brazilian Maduro wrapper. CigarAficionado reported: An earthy core with hints of leather and sweet spice, plus an earthy herbal aroma rounded by sweet wood on the finish. Well-balanced, too.

Episode II of the Microbrew and Cigar pairing events will be on July 27th at 7pm in Fishers. The event costs $15, and can be paid by clicking the link below, or in cash at the event. First 15 people to sign up are garaunteed a spot in the tasting. 4 carefully selected beers will be paired with the cigar. Follow who’s going on the Facebook event page.
