Hop Rhrizome Pre-orders

Great Fermentations is doing pre-orders for hop rhizomes again this year. They’ve got 13 different strands ranging from 3.5% to 15.5% Alpha Acid. They take about two years to actually start producing a good crop, but I don’t think they are very hard to maintain. Here’s a wiki I’ve found for growing them.  Who knows, once you get a good yield you may even be able to trade your stash for some homebrew… (hint). No brewer I know would ever turn down fresh hops! Either way, it might be worth dropping by their shop or webpage.

Amber Style Tasting Confirmed!

Hello fellow BIMPers. I’ve just confirmed the date for next month’s tasting! We’ll be holding our “Amber Armageddon” event at Isaac and Stef’s House on February 25th at 7pm. So what is an Amber beer? Amber beer can be either an Ale or a Lager. From what I could find the style is a spinoff of the traditional Pale ale. Amber Ales are generally amber to red in color, have a tones of caramel and malt, a medium to heavy body, and moderate hoppy flavor. Amber beer can also come as a lager. As with any lager, you can expect less fruity flavors derived from the yeast at higher temperatures. Lagers will also have a more malty/grain flavor than ales. If you are at a loss for what to bring PLEASE MAKE SURE THE BEER SAYS AMBER ON IT (duh… haha). Otherwise here is a list of Amber Ales, and here’s a list of Amber Lagers if that helps. Either way I’m looking forward to seeing you all again soon, and as always… Cheers!

Winterfest 2012 Map

I’ve been scouring the Brewers of Indiana Guild page for more information on which brewers are participating in Winterfest 2012 with no luck. Thankfully Hoosier Beer Geek got a hold of the layout for this weekend. This year looks pretty solid! There will be some relatively new faces in the crowd with Black Swan, Triton, and Thr3e Wise Men joining the list. Can’t wait to see what Founders, Bier, and Three Floyds bring to the table. Great Fermentations has a booth, and there will also be an area setup for Homebrewer’s Clubs. Looks like a great line-up. BIMPers of the World UNITE!

Winterfest 2012 This Weekend!!!

This year Winterfest 2012 offers over a 150 beers from 50+ breweries. If you’re looking to try staple brews from some of America’s top breweries, or sample something unique and hard to find, this is the place to be. Some breweries that turned my head last year were Founders, Dark Horse, and Bier Brewery. Hope to see you guys there!

Welcome fellow BIMPers!

I can’t stress how excited I am about this page. Beerismypassion.com is an Indianapolis based beer blog, networking tool, and forum for beer lovers. I’ll be planning events and posting results for the blind tastings I host each month on classic and not so classic styles of all things cerveza. BIMP will also be hosting a forum for home brewers to share ideas, pictures, and questions. Who knows, if I’m feeling saucy I might even throw in some beer style wikis, beer reviews, and home brew recipes. Cheers!
