Stout Bout Homebrew Competition

Great Fermentations on November 17th
From 12-5pm

• All entries need to fall within Category 13 – Stout Ale BJCP Guidelines for style.
• The first 15 people to register their brews using the Homebrew Competition Form are guaranteed a seat in the competition.
• 2 bombers of homebrew are required per entry. 1 bomber goes towards the tasting, and one is set aside for “the pot.” You can also enter four 12oz bottles, but 2 will go to the pot.
• We’ll label your entry at the start of the tasting (I’ll have plenty of sheets available when we start), but please make sure your brew is refrigerated.
• This tasting is blind, and each person who enters also gets to taste/judge each entry. The winner at the end of the tasting gets to take home the pot plus prizes!
What makes this event unique is that each participant is also a judge! All beers will be served randomly, and rated on a scale of 1-10. The entry with the highest average score receives a gift card to Great Fermentations, a special blog post on BIMP, and takes home one of every homebrew entered.

First Annual Upland Octoberfest!

Upland Brewing Co. will be holding their first annual Octoberfest in Military Park on September 22nd! If you’re not familiar with Military Park, it’s located on the corner of New York and West St. in down town Indianapolis. This park is a perfect venue for an event like this. Upland’s Octoberfest will be family friendly, but there will also be sections set aside for 21+. Expect great German food, live music, and plenty of great beer. Tickets are $5 in advance, $10 at the door, and can be purchased here. Prost!

Brown Ales Tasting is Approaching Quickly

There’s still time to reserve your spot for the Brown Ales tasting coming up on Saturday. We’ll be grilling out, sampling brews, and enjoying a nice fire out at The BLVD apartment complex in Whitestown. There are some great entries in at the moment, but there is still room for plenty more beers. I’m planning on grilling out some burgers, but I’ll also have grilled vegetables for you herbivores. Keep your eyes peeled for the grills and fire pit on your right, just North of 6190 Central Blvd. Please make sure to Request a Brew for this event. This way we can make sure we don’t have any duplicate entries. As always, bring a 6 pack of your requested brew (3 bombers or a growler is also ok as long as you bring a brew to throw into the pot). You can find the full BJCP description of American Brown Ales and English Brown ales on the BJCP website. I’m planning the tasting for Saturday August 11th at 5pm. Interested in Joining a Beer Tasting Group?

Interested in joining Indy’s elite tasting group? Your homebrew or store bought entry will be pitted against some of the most highly rated brews per style available, as well as entries from other homebrewers. Our tastings are blind, allowing for an unbiased rating of your brew. If your beer is selected as the winner, you will receive 1 of each beer entry as your prize! There is no better feeling than walking in to a tasting with a six pack, tasting 15 beers, and then walking home with 15 beers. Here’s what you need to know to enter your brew:

1) Click the Request a Brew link on BIMP’s home page to see which style of beer will be we will be rating. The date and time will also be listed on this page.

2) Fill out the form on the Request a Brew page making sure your entry fits the guidelines of the the style and then click submit.

3) If your beer is selected for the tasting we will send you a confirmation email with address information for the tasting. We will also update our website with your beer request and name. Please bring a 6 pack of 12oz bottles or three 22oz bombers to the address listed in the email.

That’s it! Good luck and may the force be with you 🙂
