Happy IPA Day!

Happy IPA Day everyone! IPA day is an opportunity for brewers, bloggers, and beer enthusiasts to use social media to converse and celebrate craft brew. IPA Day was created by Ashley Routson (AKA The Beer Wench) and Ryan Ross (Marketing Manager for Karl Strauss Brewing). Many breweries across the country and participating with hoppy pint deals and special brews. How are you spending IPA Day? I’ll be updating BIMP’s Twitter feed with retweets of breweries, brew shops, bars, and businesses that are participating throughout the day. Great Fermentations In-Store Homebrew Competition

Great Fermentations will be hosting an in-store IPA competition using their VIPA recipe as the base for the grain bill. This should be a pretty interesting competition. Hop additions and yeast are completely up to the brewer, however Simcoe and Galaxy are off the table due to the hop shortage. The winner receives a $50 Great Fermentations gift card, along with being mentioned on the updated VIPA IPA recipe kit. The winner also gets to brew a batch at Great Fermentations for a Friday Night Club. Entries (2 bottles) are due June 15th and the winner will be announced June 22nd. VIPA Recipe
Ingredients:
9.9 lbs. Unhopped light liquid malt extract (or 13 lbs of pale for all-grain recipe)
1.0 lb. 40º L crystal malt, crushed
8.0 oz. Biscuit malt, crushed
1.8 oz. Centennial hops, added at the beginning of the 60 min. boil
1.0 tsp. Irish moss, added with 20 minutes left in the boil (not included)
.5 oz. Centennial hops, added with 10 minutes left in the boil
1.0 oz. Centennial hops, added as a dry hop
Choice of one: Wyeast American II Ale yeast (#1272), White Labs Burton ale
yeast or Nottingham Dry yeast.
