Scottish Ale Fest!

This month’s tasting… Scottish Ales! I absolutely love this style and hope that you will too. BJCP Guidelines (Category 9 – Scottish and Irish Ales) describe Scottish Ales as primarily malty with low to moderate hop bitterness, and a low to medium body. The ABV will vary from 3-10% based on the type of ale brewed, and can vary in color from light copper to deep amber. Scottish Ales are categorized in a rather interesting way. Beers were classified by their price in schillings, with the stronger beers being more expensive (Strong Scotch Ale or “Wee Heavy” 90/-) and lighter beers being less expensive (Scottish Light 60/-). Here’s a rather informative link from Wikipedia on Beer in Scotland. So lets cut to the chase already! The tasting will take place at 5pm on Saturday June 30th. Don’t worry Phish Phans, the Deer Creek shows end on Friday (unless you have more money than I do and are also going to Alpine) 🙂 The first 15 peeps to Request a Brew get a seat in our tasting. Please make sure you are requesting ales and not lagers, as I will scold you and promptly reject your entry. Happy hunting, I look forward to seeing what you guys round up. Cheers!
