War of the Wheats Revisited

[slideshow]

Thanks again for making War of the Wheats one of our best tastings to date. 16 brews, 3 of which were homebrew entries, walked home with our winner Malina Sandman (O’Fallon’s Wheach Peach Wheat). That’s two times in a row the Sandman’s have sweeped our tastings. We’ve streamlined the process and didn’t have a problem keeping everyone’s glasses full. I’d like to give a shout out to our wonderful hosts Matt and Natalie for welcoming us into their new home. I’d also like to acknowledge BIMP’s new faces Brian, Gary, and Lance. Chris Wiggins (CosIT Photography) took some fantastic photos which can be found here. I’ll be posting next month’s event information soon.

Last Day For War of the Wheats Entries!

No plans this weekend? Come celebrate Memorial Day weekend with a bunch of beer nerds! We’ve still got a few open spots for our War of the Wheats tasting. Your homebrew or store bought entry will be pitted against some of the most highly rated brews per style available, as well as entries from other homebrewers. Our tastings are blind, allowing for an unbiased rating of your brew. If your beer is selected as the winner, you will receive 1 of each beer entry as your prize! There is no better feeling than walking in to a tasting with a six pack, tasting 15 beers, and then walking home with 15 beers. Here’s what you need to know to enter your brew:

1) Click the Request a Brew link on BIMP’s home page to see which style of beer will be we will be rating. The date and time will also be listed on this page.

2) Fill out the form on the Request a Brew page making sure your entry fits the guidelines of the the style and then click submit.

3) If your beer is selected for the tasting we will send you a confirmation email with address information for the tasting. We will also update our website with your beer request and name. Please bring a 6 pack of 12oz bottles or three 22oz bombers to the address listed in the email.

That’s it! Good luck and may the force be with you :)

War of the Wheats Update

There’s still 7 spots left in our next tasting on May 26th. If you are new to BIMP, all you need to do is Request a Brew. You can either pick from our list of suggested brews, or grab some inspiration from BeerAdvocate.com or Ratebeer.com’s Style Guide pages. Remember that each entry requires a 6 pack of the beer of your submitted choice. I’ll send you a confirmation if you get in with the address. Hope to see you soon!

War of the Wheats Update

I’ve created a list of suggested wheat beers for those of you still looking for an entry. As you know this tasting will cover the entire wheat beer spectrum, which is kind of nice because I think it levels the playing field. These beers should also be easily found in the Indianapolis area. My list is as follows:

Schlafly Yakima Wheat Ale
Sixpoint Eight Days O’ Wheat
Brugge Brasserie White
Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel
Ayinger Ur-Weisse
St. Bernardus Witbier
Bell’s Oarsman Berliner Weissbier
New Belgium Mothership Wit
Thr3e Wise Men Two Lucys Blackberry Wheat
Oaken Barrel DunkelWeizen
Broad Ripple Brew Pub Hefe Weizen
Flat 12 Upside Down Blonde
Triton Fieldhouse Wheat
Bier Brewery Persephone Wheat
Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat
Sam Adams Summer Ale

Zac was also kind enough to link each wheat category to the corresponding Beer Advocate list in a previous post:

American Pale Wheat: Pale Wheat
American Dark Wheat: Dark Wheat
German Dunkelweizen: Dunkelweizen
German Hefeweizen: Hefeweizen
German Weizenbock: Weizenbock
Belgian Witbier: Witbier

War of the Wheats!

War of the Wheats has begun! BIMP’s next blind tasting will be on May 26th at 5pm. Here are the details. First and foremost, we are accepting all wheat styles. This means American Pale Wheat Ales, Belgian/French Style Witbiers, and German Weissbiers (Berliner Weissbier, Dunkelweizen, Hefeweizen, etc). I’m also happy to announce that this month’s tasting will also feature several homebrew submissions! As always, the first 15 submissions through the Request a Brew portal will be accepted into the event. The floodgates are open. Good Luck!
