Great Fermentations will be hosting Friday Night Club this weekend with guests from New Day Meadery. New Day Meadery is family owned meadery run by Brett Canaday and Tia Agnew. Their honey wine is made from locally sourced fruit and honey. There will be a guided mead tasting at this event via New Day Meaders, but home mead makers are encouraged to bring in samples of their own tasty creations as well. Homebrewers and winemakers are also welcome. The event will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Great Fermentations. If you happen to miss this event, New Day Meadery also has a tasting room located in Fountain Square.
This is a step away from my usual posts, but I thought it would be a cool thing to try. EdWort of homebrewtalk.com posted a thread on making Apfelwein (German Hard Cider) from 100% preservative free apple juice, corn sugar, and wine yeast. The recipe is super simple, apparently tastes fantastic, and can be made in as little as 6 weeks. What’s the downside? Haha, from what I understand Apfelwein gives you a ridiculous hangover. In fact, there is even a disclaimer at the bottom of Edwort’s recipe. Either way, I’m super interested in creating some Apfelwein of my own.
