BIMP Pouring At Winterfest 2014!

Winterfest TicketsBeer Is My Passion will be participating at this year’s Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest (now officially sold out) at the Indiana State Fair on February 1st! What will we be doing you ask? Pouring delicious homebrew of course 🙂 We will be sharing the stage with MONK, The Ohio Valley Homebrewers Association, and The Bloomington Hop Jockeys. Expect great beer from your favorite local/national breweries, but make it a point to drop by and say hi  to your brewers next door! This year we’ll be sharing a Belgian Witbier with tangerine zest, chamomile flowers, and coriander; an English IPA (Sleepy Sailor if you’ve seen our recipe on our blog); a mulled cider (served hot for you firkin lovers wanting to warm up from the cold); and a jalapeno cider we got some cred from in the Indy Star this year. Stay tuned, as I’ll be updating my blog with a full list of brewers attending Winterfest sometime tomorrow.

First Annual BIMP Tour Revisited!

This tour was AMAZING! We packed up several empty coolers, mp3 players, and a small amount of luggage on a beer tour I’ll never forget. 8 people in a 12 passenger van forded through viscous wind, rain, and snow to visit some of the best breweries in the midwest. We hit Lafayette Brewing, Peoples Brewing, Crown Brewing, and Three Floyd’s on Day 1. Founders Brewing, Brewery Vivant, and Bell’s Brewing (where we enjoyed the wonderful musings of Keller Williams) on Day 2. Day 3 started a lot slower :), but we did manage to make an extended stop at Dark Horse Brewing before making the voyage back home. I personally sampled over 35 unique beers not distributed outside of the breweries, and also managed to bring home several rare bombers and a growler. What’s next for BIMP Beer Tours you ask? We are thinking about another trip North to Traverse City via train and working our way back to Indy. We definitely have more breweries to explore in the Grand Rapids, MI area. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks again to Keith, Michael, Lance, Ryan, Joe, Mikey, and Jenn for making this trip so enjoyable. Hope you had as good of a time as I did. Cheers!

BIMP’s 1 Year Anniversary!

BIMP Logo - Black and WhiteBeer Is My Passion just turned 1 today! Thanks for all of your friendship and support. We’ve really come a long way! Our first two posts were added on January 26th in anticipation of going to the Brewer’s of Indiana Guild Winterfest. Coincidentally, today is January 26th and we are actually pouring at Winterfest 🙂 Please come check out our booth from 4:00pm – 5:00pm at the Homebrew Club section of the event. Our homebrew club has held 12 tastings to date, including two homebrew competitions held in collaboration with Great Fermentations. We’ve created 15 recipes ranging from 5 gallon extract/partial mash batches to 10 gallon all grain brews. Some of our more popular posts over the year were Stout Bout Homebrew Competition RevisitedWhy Use a Counterflow Wort Chiller, Carbonation Chart For You Home Keggers, and Three Floyd’s to Release Oyster Stout. Our blog was viewed by people from 83 countries with over 15,000 hits! We are looking forward to 2013 by kicking off the new year with a monstrous Brewery Tour! Thanks again for making BIMP such a fun and exciting part of my life.

BIMP Participating at Winterfest 2013!

Winterfest 2013 Tickets You heard right folks, Beer Is My Passion will be participating at this year’s Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest at the Indiana State Fair on January 26th! What will we be doing you ask? Pouring delicious homebrew of course 🙂 We will be sharing the stage with 8 other Indiana Homebrew Clubs, each of which will be serving their mightiest homebrewed libations. I’ll be sure to update you all with a schedule of when our brews will be served. Hope to see you there!

Interested in Joining a Beer Tasting Group?

Interested in joining Indy’s elite tasting group? Your homebrew or store bought entry will be pitted against some of the most highly rated brews per style available, as well as entries from other homebrewers. Our tastings are blind, allowing for an unbiased rating of your brew. If your beer is selected as the winner, you will receive 1 of each beer entry as your prize! There is no better feeling than walking in to a tasting with a six pack, tasting 15 beers, and then walking home with 15 beers. Here’s what you need to know to enter your brew:

1) Click the Request a Brew link on BIMP’s home page to see which style of beer will be we will be rating. The date and time will also be listed on this page.

2) Fill out the form on the Request a Brew page making sure your entry fits the guidelines of the the style and then click submit.

3) If your beer is selected for the tasting we will send you a confirmation email with address information for the tasting. We will also update our website with your beer request and name. Please bring a 6 pack of 12oz bottles or three 22oz bombers to the address listed in the email.

That’s it! Good luck and may the force be with you 🙂

Brown Ale Tasting Confirmed

Our next blind tasting will focus on Brown Ales! These beers are sweet and malty, with a low to moderate hop flavor, and a medium to full body. American Brown Ales originated in the US in the early 1980’s when brewers started putting their own spin on traditional English Brown Ales. They are generally hoppier than their English relatives, sometimes with citrus hop notes. They tend to range from 4-6% abv, with a moderate to high amount of carbonation leading to a tan-ish/light head. You can find the full BJCP description of American Brown Ales and English Brown ales on the BJCP website. I’m planning the tasting for Saturday August 11th at 5pm, and it will held at The BLVD at Anson apartment complex. There will be a fire pit, BBQ, and of course wonderful Brown ales. Please make sure to Request a Brew for this event so that I can get a headcount. As always, bring a 6 pack of your requested brew (3 bombers or a growler is also ok as long as you bring a brew to throw into the pot). We will also have BIMP Merch available for anyone interested (shirts are $20 and stickers are 2 for $5)! Here’s a list of suggested brews if you need a hand:

New Links Page Added

This post is long overdue and I’m sorry for not publishing it earlier. I’ve updated BIMP with links to Indiana breweries, brew shops, beer blogs, and affiliates. When it comes to beer there are so many resources out there. Please take some time and check out some of the other great sources of all things beer 🙂 Hopefully you’ll find it useful.
