Cigar and Microbrew Pairing Episode III

banner-1The powers of these cigar pairings have doubled since the last time we met… On Saturday August 31st at 7pm, we will be hosting another cigar and microbrew pairing in Fishers (click here for the address). It appears we have fallen into several West Coast brews that the the Separatist Droid Army has stolen from the Republic. What better way to enjoy these valuable brews, than to pair them with a blend of Nicaraguan/Honduran longfillers with Honduran binders and Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrappers. Alec Bradley Connecticut cigars are mild to medium in strength, with a little more spice and complexity than you would expect from a Connecticut cigar. It produces plumes of creamy and cool smoke that coat the palate with notes of cedar, nuts, and toast before a slightly sweet finish. These are perfect for those who appreciate a flavorful milder cigar, or for someone struggling between light and dark forces. Remember each beer picked for this event IS NOT distributed in Indiana. I am selecting hard to find brews from the up and down the West Coast and shipping them back specifically for this tasting. These tickets are sure to go fast, so please purchase them as soon as possible! Hope to see you there. 1st 15 people to sign up are guaranteed a spot at the tasting. You can also see who’s coming by visiting the Facebook Event Page. May the force be with you 🙂

Microbrew and Cigar Pairing Episode II

Episode 2-The Dark Side
There is unrest in the Beer Is My Passion
homebrew club. After many sleepless nights,
BIMPers have declared their intentions to hold
another galactic cigar microbrew council. This
movement, striving to maintain peace and order in
the galaxy, vows to pair the finest cigars with the best
microbrewed beer in the universe. Senator Jennifer Kraner,
former Queen of Ft. Wayne-midala along with Jedi Ryan Kraner
will return to the BIMP Senate to present beers in succession to the microbrew council. Each beer carefully chosen for their unique
powers will showcase a balance between light and dark forces.

The Cigar: Carlos Torano Signature-Maduro
Torano Signature cigars are flawlessly handmade with a robust, complex-tasting blend of Dominican & Nicaraguan Cuban-seed Ligero long-fillers, broadleaf binder, and an oily, sun-grown Brazilian Maduro wrapper. CigarAficionado reported: An earthy core with hints of leather and sweet spice, plus an earthy herbal aroma rounded by sweet wood on the finish. Well-balanced, too.

Episode II of the Microbrew and Cigar pairing events will be on July 27th at 7pm in Fishers. The event costs $15, and can be paid by clicking the link below, or in cash at the event. First 15 people to sign up are garaunteed a spot in the tasting. 4 carefully selected beers will be paired with the cigar. Follow who’s going on the Facebook event page.

Cigar and Beer Tasting Revisited

Our first Cigar and Beer Pairing was one of our smoothest tastings to date. Many thanks to Ryan and Jenny Kraner for taking this idea and running with it. I’m sure there were countless hours of research going into this :). I’d also like to thank Eric Cole for hosting the event. Such a great time! CAO Gold Corona Gordo cigars were paired with Saison Dupont, Franziskaner Weissbier Dunkel, Triton Magnificent Amber, and John Henry Colonial Cream & Brown Ale (one of my favorites). Some homebrew also made an appearance including BIMP’s Wheat Wine, Super Duper Cuker (Wheat Wine w/ Cucumber), and FIC Bier (Dunkel Weisse). Each beer was sampled before lighting the cigar, and then again while smoking it. You’d be amazed at how the flavor characteristics of each beer morphed throughout the process. Lighter beers were sampled first, and moved towards darker/heavier/stronger beers towards the end. All around great event!

Microbrew and Cigar Pairing

anticipationHello Hello! I’d like to invite you to a microbrew and cigar tasting! On June 29th, we will be pairing a CAO Gold cigar with four carefully picked beers to match this wonderful cigar’s flavor profile. Made by hand in Nicaragua, the soothing CAO Gold cigar is blended from aged long leaves, including an exquisite wrapper made with leaves from Connecticut-seed grown in Ecuadorian soil, and Cuban-seed Nicaraguan filler and binder. Silky, medium-bodied flavor that’s deep and complex which delivers flavors of vanilla, cream, nutmeg, and toasted nuts. Please join us on June 29th for this awesome event. Admission is $15, cigars and beer provided. 1st 15 to sign up reserve a spot in the tasting. Visit the Facebook Event page here to see who’s coming. Cheers!

Indiana City Grand Opening

The grand opening at Indiana City was a lot of fun. Food trucks, music, and good beer. I got the opportunity to try each beer yesterday, and they were all pretty solid. My personal favorite of the day was the Shadowboxer Oatmeal Stout. Yacht Rock Belgian Wheat was also pretty smooth. Some would say Kenny Loggins smooth!

Bloomington Craft Beer Festival Revisited

2013-04-13_16-21-10_543

We had a blast at this year’s Bloomington Craft Beer Festival. The Woolery Stone Mill could not have been a better venue for this event. So many great beers, beautiful weather, and an awesome crowd. You can bet I’ll be back there next year. Thanks to everyone that dropped by to try our brews. These pictures, as well as updates on other beer festivals can be found at the Brewers of Indiana Guild’s website. Cheers!

Upland Announces the 2013 UpCup Homebrew Competition

It looks like Upland Brewing has slated June 8th, 2013 as the date for this year’s celebrated homebrew competition. Entries are judged in accordance with BJCP Style Guidelines by certified beer judges. Upland has been very inviting to homebrewers that aspire to be something more. Each year the winner of this competition wins a trophy, and gets to brew a batch of their winning beer with Caleb Staton using Upland Brewing’s equipment. The beer is then served at their location in Bloomington, and also their location at the Tasting Room in Indianapolis. The UpCup was my first homebrew competition, and remains as my favorite to date. Don’t miss out on this awesome event. Upland’s website does not currently have any specific details on the event yet, but they will come soon. My advice is to start brewing your batches now. You only get one entry, so make it your best!

Good luck to all participants!
